Is there anyone out there who didn't like the first episode of SPN season 7?
I had high hopes for his episode and it not only met my expectations, it met expectations that I didn’t even know I had and gave me things I didn’t even know I wanted! Seriously, best season opener after 4.01 and definitely one of the best eps of the entire series.
My first thought was that deranged, wannabe!God!Cas is even hotter than clueless, dishevelled, angel!Cas. And then of course I was too busy chuckling for the rest of the opening scene because I couldn’t help but notice Sam was totally rocking the Ted ‘Theodore’ Logan look. I mean, his hair was all ruffled and sticky out, and he had this adorably clueless look on his face and even his posture was all meek and confused. I was just waiting for him to say ‘woah’ and blink slowly while shaking his head.
And then I noticed that Dean’s hair is… weird. Obviously he hasn’t had much time to get a haircut lately (though Sam seems to have gotten a chance), because it’s long and kind of… Ken doll-looking. I hope they fix that. But even if they don’t, I’ll be fine, so long as he keeps his feet on the ceiling of the Impala and grunts a lot! Also, fixing the car. There should be lots of fixing the car. Then bashing it in with a crowbar, then fixing it again. With tools. And sweat and muscles and tools and grunting.
And holy crap, how cute was he, all holding his back when he got out of the car!! *hugs the poor guy* Getting old sucks.
I can’t even say how stoked I am about Sam’s hallucinations. I was worried they’d just play off his stay in Hell like it was nothing, but I’m hoping this is just setting us up for a long, hard road to recovery. With Dean being all concerned and babying him and petting his hair while he has nightmares and whispering in his ear that everything is fine, because he’s back and Dean’s never letting him go again.
*cough* Or something.
Sam deserves some snuggles and chicken soup after all he’s been through, is my point.
(Plus, Sam getting choked by chains is kind of unbelievably hot, so here’s to that particular hallucination cropping up again and again )
I’m a little disappointed he didn’t tell Dean right away, but not surprised. I believed him when he said he wanted Dean to be able to hang onto that one imaginary good thing they had in their current shit show, but even before he overheard Dean talking to Bobby, he had to know Dean wasn’t falling for it.
Also YAY for Sam being willing to give Cas another chance, even when Dean wasn’t. I was hoping they’d go there (given all the parallels between Sam S4 storyline and Cas’ from S6) so I’m glad they didn’t let me down.
And Cas. CAS! Holy fuck, when he went into that church and killed those guys and burned his picture into the stained glass… Holy fucking psycho, batman! That scene was amazing. Oh and when he healed that blind guy, like trying to prove to himself that he was actually just and good by rewarding his true followers. And all the killing and his vessel failing on him and his downward spiral (that seemed to take place a little too fast for me, since I would have been happy with a few more tanking!Godstiel episodes) was simultaneously horrifying and mesmerising.
I loved him putting Crowley in his place and offering him Hell just so head a threat to hold over his enemies. Loved how Crowley seems to change his tune so easily (seems like Cas is the top in their relationship now!) because he’s an opportunistic dick.
Loved Crowley asking hopefully if Dean and Sam and Bobby wanted to conspire against him while pretending he’d never, loved Death and his pickle chips and how they all treat him with respect even though they have him bound and how cool he is through the whole thing.
Most of all, I love how Cas was actually sorry at the end. How be kept apologising to Dean, but Dean never forgave him (not out loud, but it nearly broke my heart when Cas was lying there dead and Dean was upset over it, so you know he wanted to forgive him even if he couldn’t) and how Cas died *DIED* before he could make things right, like he promised at the end. I LOVE YOU, CAS!
And then, hello, leviathan! And fuck if Cas isn't an all new kind of hot as that creature(s). Damn, I'm so excited!!!
Dean and Bobby… were just kind of there. Which is fine. Because Sam is looking so sweet and vulnerable and I want to give him a hug so bad I almost don’t mind at all if Dean’s in the background. And I admit, I was kind of bitter that we didn’t get to see him being awesome by tying up the couple with the gun, but the fact that he did was pretty cool.
I did like how Dean was trying to be all tough and in charge, even though Cas and Death both kind of looked at him like ‘really?’ and went about their business practically ignoring him. Although Death seems to be oddly interested in Dean. He panders a lot, gives Dean what he wants more than you’d think he really should. I wonder what that’s all about.
I’m really kind of intrigued about the possibility having Misha on the show but not as Cas (kind of Fred/Illyria style). But I don’t think SPN has the balls to kill Cas off completely. I think it’s only a matter of time before they find a way to bring him back, even if he’s only an occasional guest character.
On the negative side, I could have lived without the souls trying to bust out of Cas Alien style. That works if you’re playing opposite Sigourney Weaver, or maybe Bill Pullman, but this time it was just lame.
And I did feel a little like we were thrown a whole bunch of shit going down all at once. I have high hopes for the rest of the season, but I’m a little worried that they stuffed so much awesome into one episode that they can’t possibly live up to it.
Also, all that awesome seemed to detract from the awesome. If that makes sense. It was like they were bringing out all their guns just to show them off. As I said, I think this episode would have been better and more effective if they’d spread it out over four or five episodes, with the main focus of each ep on monster of the week with this God!Cas and breaking!Sam thing going on in the background.
But, I don’t know what the show has planned, so it might actually work out pretty well.
Here’s hoping!
In conclusion: Everyone is beautiful, everyone is awesome, Dean and Sam are Cas’ favourite pets (and probably Death’s) and they are so incredibly fucked that I can’t stop smiling!
Anybody placing bets yet on what's going to happen later in the season? Anyone really didn't like this ep? Anyone else wish Sam (or Cas) was in the Impala with Dean when he was on his back and grunting?

But yeah, this season looks awesome!

Heh.
Reasie and I watched the episode drunk (with issues with the live streaming, making it too quiet to hear much), so it didn't make much sense.
Then I rewatched it properly today - and, honestly? Half of the stuff that I assumed I'd missed was just missing. Like you said, it seemed like it should have taken 4 or 5 eps for all the shit that went down. I felt like Cas' character bounced through about an entire season's arc in one episode. (And was entirely confused by the least convincing 'I'm sorry, I want to redeem myself' speech in the history of the Universe, which I assumed was fake, then realised was supposed to be real.)
The ep was fun, the leviathan ending was pretty cool, but it just felt like too much was going on to me (or, rather, there wasn't enough explanation or context because they'd condensed it so much). Also, I felt kinda like Dean was being a tool. Bobby was doing a good job imitating furniture.
Sam was made of win though, Crowley and Death were as awesome as always, and I really loved Nick showing up. Torture and chains for the win!
Ping me when you're free later!

Great south park shout out.
Sorry chick-- great pace for all us Americans with the a.d.d.

Not that I'd expect an American to spot the difference. :P
Dude, it wasn't just a South Park reference - it was literal! You should have seen her! So cute.

...Shut up.

When Cas turned around mid-soulpurge there and said 'I'm sorry' I was all 'Oh, here's were he smites everyone and runs off to be evil' but then... no. That was actually a sincere 'I'm sorry'.
I was befuddled.
I'm just getting supper sorted here, then I have to put on Transformers for the fiftieth time (It's slumber party night), so give me a few hours. I'll be back as soon as I can!

Broken and messed up Sam was awesome. And yeah-- the chains and promise of more abused Sam--yay!
Great Old Ones!!! F'en cool!!!
Death rocks and is totally soft on Dean. I think it's because he's died 113 times.
Great Old Ones Rock!

I'm glad I wasn't the only one side-eyeing Dean's hair and WTFing. Ken doll is a good description.
There's something going on with Dean and Death. There is. Not a slashy something necessarily, but something.
I could have lived with the souls trying to bust out of Cas if it didn't look so much like a couple of hands with the fingers stretched out poking through some latex.
Got no clue what they are going to do and right now I don't care. The first episode was awesome and I'm just going to enjoy that for right now.

I guess, with the souls thing, they needed a visual way to get across that they were trying to break free so they didn't have to do the ominous voiceover of Cas going 'the souls are trying to break free'. So I can sort of forgive them. SPN has never been top of the food chain when it comes to visual effects, so.

I was actually thinking Sam was on his way to tell Dean about the hallucinations right then (it was right after the chain one), but he heard what Dean said and didn't want to add to his burden (though that didn't last long).

But yes, for now I'll forgive the whiplash pace of this ep and sit back and wait to see what happens next. I'm hoping they know what they're doing :)

I am hopeful. And it is so pretty - well especially Dean-seriously Sam might have to investigate if Dean gets any prettier. And I'm backing Cthulu as the big bad - mind I've never been right, but they've set it up if they want to go that way. :)

I now have an overwhelming need for more Cthulu in SPN.

Omg, Sam. I may not be a Sassy fan, but Sam having faith in Cas is heartwarming. "I pray, Dean."
When Sam and Dean wear something else than flannel shirts, it's fucking awesome. And I like Dean's floppy hair. The combination of his hair and different clothing made him look younger. <3
Felt Crowley was underused and somewhat mocked in this episode. Still much love for him, though. Has Bobby forgave Cas for killing his gal last season? Didn't seem to hold a grudge.
Lolol, I saw Mark's name in the credits and despite that, it didn't register in my mind until Lucifer showed up. I was like, "Oh crap!"
And CAS. Cas, Cas, Cas, Cas. Geeze, just tell Dean you love him already! Was it me or did he seem more... human in this episode? It seems he became very vain, putting his (Jimmy's) face on the windows, checking the mirrors of the wounds, curling up on himself... all the while, all of his most heartbreaking faces were directed towards Dean. Dean, Dean, Dean, Dean. You saw how shocked he was when Dean commanded Death to kill him.
I feel this is not the last we'll see of Death. Dean's right, why does Death drop all these vague clues onto him and not someone else?
This is definately not the last we see of Cas. He'll be back.
Cas promised he'll redeem himself to Dean. That means something.
(no subject)
And yeah, I could definitely have done with some more Crowley. Hopefully we haven't seen the last of him!
Cas did seem more human, that's a good way of putting it. But wow, he did a lot of apologising to Dean when it was Sam he'd really wronged most, so yeah, he might as well just say 'I love you' instead of 'I'm sorry' :)
I'm so excited for more!

Anyone else wish Sam (or Cas) was in the Impala with Dean when he was on his back and grunting?
Hells, yeah! Alas, Show didn't have the guts. :( But see, I know of this "Rockstarpeach" person who is really, REALLY good at writing scenes like that, so . . . Dean-on-his-back-and-grunting-in-the-Impala could possibly come to fruition after all. *offers bribe*

Hey, you're not going to the convention next weekend, are you? I'm going and I'm kind of looking forward to it, but I fear it's going to be a let-down.

But you should totally come loiter! I need to know someone, because I'm going all by myself! There's like, kareoke and shit on Friday night. It'll be a blast :)

Hope you have a good time at CasinoRama! I've never been there. Ummm... I think there's some sort of costume parade or something on Saturday... Other than that, I'm not really sure what's happening at the con. Like I said, probably a lot of people standing around to get photos and autographs and stuff, but I'm hoping to make my own fun :)
If you do make it down (up? over? for me it's kind of over and up) to loiter, shoot me a PM or something.
