So I'm sitting here watching one of my all time favourite movies (not in my top five, so I'm not saying what it is) and it got me thinking about what my top five actually are. And I want to know what yours are, too!

So comment with your list! Top five ONLY, no seven-way tie for third place and no hemming and hawing and listing out a dozen films before you finally decide on your fifth pick. DO NOT mention any movie that doesn't make your cut. I only want to hear five titles from you guys. They don't have to be in order, though you're more than welcome to list them that way, I just want to know what you guys think are the five greatest movies in the history of ever.

I'll go first :)

In no particular order...

Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure
Planet of the Apes
Logan's Run

Those first three are easy. After that... there are SO MANY. But. I guess I'll finally settle on

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Dude, Where's My Car

And I know I'm probably going to change my mind as soon as I hit 'post', but no take backs :)

Ha!

I've got a silly little tune stuck in my head, all of a sudden...

*One of these things is not like the others
One of these things just doesn't belong
Can you guess which thing is not like the others
Before I finish my song?"

Er... at least, I'm assuming that's the case, based on the titles. I've only ever seen one of those movies and I didn't much care for it :)

Unless the psychotic killer is an alien clown? I'm probably not going to be into a horror flick.

The Godfather
Ferris Beuller's Day Off (LOL)
French Kiss
Dances With Wolves (back when Kevin Costner made good movies)
The Sixth Sense

That is a pretty cool list!

I've seen four of those and I liked three of them :)

Well, okay. I liked four. The one of them I just can't enjoy anymore, based on the subsequent suckage of the guy that made it.

There's one of those that I haven't seen. I think I'll check it out :)

And I agree, The Princess Bride was wonderful.

Ack! There's one of those that I'd put on my bottom five movies of all time :)

Two I haven't seen, though. Seems like I've got some television to be watching!

wow, this was hard. I picked movies that made me smile or snivel or both. And I probably will shriek "I meant that other one!" as soon as I post this. But for right now, here goes my momentary top five!

The Long Kiss Goodnight (samuel jackson, omg!)
Pulp Fiction (I like any movie that makes me laugh and scream)
Batman
Public Enemy (james cagney will always be my hero)
The Postman (I don't care what anyone says, I loved that movie)

Yeah, they don't have to be thinkers, or some kind of epic. Just movies that will never let you down :)

I've only seen TWO of those! Hell, two I've never even heard of!

Man, this is turning into a lot of work for me, because I want to watch ALL THE MOVIES, now :)

Death at a funeral (The UK original, not the shitty US version)
Office Space
Shaun of the dead
Flypaper
5th Element

Wow, interesting choices :)

There's one I've never heard of, so it looks like I'm gonna have to look that up!

Sixteen Candles
Dirty Dancing
Coraline
Tommy Boy
Romeo + Juliet (Baz Luhrmann)

you are a task mistress, no humming and hawing indeed...I did all of that here with Wendy. LOL, one of your list actually makes my list of time I will never get back! But regardless of your taste in movies, I still adore you♄

LOL! Yeah, it's funny how we can all have such different tastes, but we can put that aside and come together to celebrate what really matters :)

DEAN!

I love Young Frankenstein and Butch and Sundance! Also all the rest of your movies. Excellent!

How To Train Your Dragon
Pitch Perfect
Mallrats

Ahh! I love How To Train Your Dragon. My daughter went through a phase last year where I swear, I watched that movie every single day for about two months :)

Have you seen the live version? It's amazing!

Shawshank Redemption
The Color Purple
Breakfast at Tiffany's
Say Anything

Good list!

I love The Sound of Music. It's one of those movies that I think I'd like a J2 version of. Warm, carefree inviting Jared raising a dozen of rigid, closed-off military Jensen's kids? WIN!

posted by [identity profile] tifaching.livejournal.com at 03:17pm on 01/03/2013
1) The Sting

2) The King's Speech

3) The Birdcage

4) The Lost Boys

5) Die Hard

I loved Logan's Run!

posted by [identity profile] rockstarpeach.livejournal.com at 04:34pm on 01/03/2013
Oh, if my list had gone to ten, I'd probably have The Lost Boys on it :)

And yes! Logan's Run! Heh, I've wanted to see a J2 version of that movie forever. I can just picture Jensen as an uncaring, play-by-the-rules sandman, and Jared as the sweet young hooker that helps him find the truth and open his heart :)

Wow, you're lame. *cough* Even if I happen to own a couple of those movies *cough*

I know that there'll be like 3 of these that I say 'wtf?!' if I look at it later, because I'll have somehow forgotten some all-time faves (there are a whole slew of late-80s movies that I've watched like a billion times each and love madly), but I'll give it a stab...

From Dusk Till Dawn
Major League
The Lost Boys
The Departed
Road House

I actually preferred Bogus Journey to Excellent Adventure. Lame.

Love you!

posted by [identity profile] rockstarpeach.livejournal.com at 04:50pm on 02/03/2013
How did I know Major League was gonna be on your list? :)

And okay, the rest of those movies are pretty cool, too. But don't go pretending like you don't love my choices!

How can... how you can possibly like Bogus Journey better than Excellent Adventure. I mean... it's EXCELLENT. It says so right there in the title. Bogus Journey is... bogus!

Love you too!!

1. Aliens
2. Ghostbusters
3. Back to the Future III
4. Terminator
5. Terminator 2

It seems I got a fetish for sci-fi monsters and time-traveling.

Your list is pretty much made of win :)

Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure FTW!!! Dude where's my Car? Seriously if you were a single gay man I would ask you to marry me. It's like we are the same person. Love those movies. Another good classic is Killer Clowns from outer space. It's so cheesy but funny at the same time. (Also if you don't mind gore Tucker and Dale VS Evil is a must see. I don't do gore but I was able to watch it and laugh all the way through it.)

Now I have to come up with some different movies.

Exit to Eden
Pretty In Pink
Clue
Psycho Beach Party
Sorority Boys.

Ah! Killer Klowns From Outer Space was one of my favourites, when I was a teenager! I must have rented it from the video store (remember those?) at least a doze times!

"They threw popcorn at us! We barely escaped!"

LOL!!

I'm not a big gore fan either, but maybe I'll check out Tucker and Dale...

And I've only seen one movie on your list, so it looks like I've got some movie watching to do :)

I hate Top Favorites...I LOVE all the movies!

Okay, so not a definitive list, because I don't make proclamations, but if I had to pick...

Fellowship of the Ring,
Say Anything,
Jurassic Park,
Deep Impact,
Independence Day.

Those last three are my go-to comfort movies - I have watched them so many times I think I may have reached triple digits.

posted by [identity profile] rockstarpeach.livejournal.com at 04:56pm on 02/03/2013
I know, it's so hard to pick just five!

I remember you talking about those last three a while ago - it made me want to watch Deep Impact again, but it's not on Netflix Canada, so I sadly I can't :(

And it's funny, Fellowship was my least favourite of those movies.

asking me to pick my top 5 movies is like asking me to pick my top 5 songs, which, as an ex-musician... is impossible. I just wanted to say I like your taste woman. I watch most on your list quite often. In fact, Khan is the only movie that can consistently make me cry TT

posted by [identity profile] rockstarpeach.livejournal.com at 04:57pm on 02/03/2013
I know it's hard! That's what makes it fun :) Most people will change their list from day to day, depending on what kind of mood they're in, right?

posted by [identity profile] elveys-stuff.livejournal.com at 05:08pm on 02/03/2013
Only five?? Ack!

The Nightmare Before Christmas
Boondock Saints
Making Mr. Right
The Artist
Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet

posted by [identity profile] rockstarpeach.livejournal.com at 06:28pm on 02/03/2013
I know, five is so hard!

But on the plus side, I'm getting a lot of movies suggestions that I haven't seen before. Like everything on your list, except Boondock Saints :)

posted by [identity profile] uwalumni2.livejournal.com at 03:44am on 05/03/2013
Oh this was tough!!! So many out there...like you, I will probably remember a different one after I posted.

1. Gone with the Wind
2. The Sting
3. Birdcage (love Robin Williams in comedy...Mrs. Doubtfire, etc. Hilarious!)
4. Sleepless in Seattle (of course...where I live!)
5. Saving Private Ryan (cried my eyes out!!!)

I really love military movies since I am military and grew up military...and now working to care for our veterans. I love police movies, too....Dirty Harry was a hoot! Loved watching them with my father. Fond memories!

You got me thinking....now with my insomnia, I will probably be up thinking of all the movies I watched over the years! Thanks for doing this! Got my brain cells active! ^_^

It's so hard to pick just five!

I haven't seen any of those movies in AGES, but yeah, most of them are pretty good :)
