And welcome to a brand new series of posts that's bound to insult and offend more people than ever before!
Do you ever read fic that really, really pisses you off? Of course the answer is yes. We all do. And sometimes after I do, I have to wrestle myself out of leaving a comment telling the author how much they pissed me off (it's not pretty; there's often pointy teeth and fur flying), so instead, what I'm going to do, is post to my journal, airing my grievances.
I won't name names, or tell you what fic I'm talking about, I'm just going to tell you about what pissed me off and why. I'm not trying to be a bitch (I know, I know, I don't have to try), I just need to vent sometimes, about things in fandom that get under my skin, and I invite you all to share your experiences, or tell me I'm an idiot for getting all huffy for no reason.
Seriously, open discussion here, so don't be afraid to tell me you think I'm overreacting.
So!
Today's issue:
You know how sometimes you read a fic that sounds so promisingbecause all the rape and beating and crying sounds good until you find out there's knotting SHUT UP ASH. No, it sounds good, with someone getting a 'pleasure slave' and there being all kinds of fucked up angst over consent issues and tempting, tempting pretty young boys and wonderful dirty sex and... yeah, sorry, where was I?
Right.It sounds good until you find out the pretty boys aren't getting tied up REASIE SERIOUSLY, FUCK OFF.
No. Okay. It sounds like a fic that would be right up your alley. It is a fic that's right up your alley. Until you get to the end, and (as happens with A LOT of fics, I don't mean to pick on this one, it's just convenient because I just finished reading it) there's magnanimous switching. Now, I dig switching. Hard. I just... when the character who has been 'in charge', who's been topping the whole time, decides to use bottoming as a means of equivalency, or showing their true love, or some bullshit, it pisses me the fuck off.
Dude, sex should just be about what feels good. And as a woman, who bottoms (most of the time) by default, I'm pretty damn offended by the implication that I can't ever be equal to my partner because I can't ever stick a (real) dick in him, instead of the other way around.
And I hear so often from women in SPN fandom that that SHOW is misogynistic. Shame on you, fandom.
Can't I ever see the 'master' giving up control, only to have the 'slave' ride him into oblivion?
